Korean American business leaders in the Austin area have formally relaunched the Korean American Chamber of Commerce of Austin (KACCA), uniting to rebuild a previously inactive regional business organization and reestablish it as a central hub for the local Korean business community.
A special general meeting to formalize the relaunch was held on December 12 in Austin, where attendees approved key agenda items including a resolution to rebuild the chamber, the adoption of official bylaws, and the election of the organization’s inaugural leadership team.
The renewed chamber is led primarily by U.S.-based executives of Korean companies operating in the Austin area. Business leaders from a wide range of industries—including information technology, manufacturing, distribution, and services—participated in the meeting and agreed to position the chamber as a unifying platform for Korean American economic activity in Central Texas.
Rebuilding Resolution Adopted: Focus on Advocacy, Information Sharing
According to the rebuilding resolution adopted at the meeting, the Korean American Chamber of Commerce of Austin is established to advance the interests of Korean American business owners, promote information sharing, and strengthen mutual cooperation among members. The organization will operate as a nonprofit entity.
The resolution was approved by a majority vote of attending full members and outlines plans to proceed with Texas state registration and apply for federal tax-exempt status with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), along with the formation of a formal board of directors.
Bylaws Approved to Establish Governance Framework
Members reviewed a draft set of bylaws that had been distributed in advance of the meeting and adopted them after incorporating limited revisions. The vote passed unanimously, with eight votes in favor and no votes against or abstentions.
The bylaws define the chamber’s governance structure, decision-making processes, officer roles and responsibilities, membership qualifications, and financial management principles. The bylaws took effect immediately upon adoption.
Inaugural Leadership Team Elected
The meeting also resulted in the election of the chamber’s inaugural leadership team. The officers include President Jong-Kyu Nam, a U.S. citizen and the U.S. subsidiary head of a Korean company, along with executive vice presidents, vice presidents, a secretary, treasurer, auditor, and board members.
The newly elected leadership will oversee chamber operations and strategic initiatives, including membership expansion, cooperation with local and regional economic development organizations, and the promotion of U.S.–Korea business exchanges.
Business Leaders Cite Importance of Unified Representation
A number of Korean American business representatives signed the official attendance roster and took part in the rebuilding process. Participants noted that the relaunch restores an official representative organization for Korean-owned businesses operating in Austin and Central Texas, calling it a meaningful step for the local business community.
The Korean American Chamber of Commerce of Austin plans to complete its nonprofit incorporation process and host a formal launch event before beginning full operations.
